Have been waiting to hear if the Vermilion flycatcher is spotted again.
Was going to try and go again this past Wed. or Thurs. Last weeks trip was
unsuccessful, although saw nice waterfowl at the sandpit Eric Dean gave us
directions to.
So anyway, at home yesterday instead of in Goldsboro, had an extremely
busy yard. Saw most of the following birds in 20 min. or so from inside the
house. A flock of Robins was present, as well as a flock of Cedar Waxwings,
and the largest group of Bluebirds I've ever had. All were enjoying
remaining Dogwood berries and the Bluebirds were also hunting for insects in
the leaves.
Had at least 2 Eastern Phoebes
An immature Baltimore Oriole was with the Robins- at one point he
landed on the frame of the slylight on the garage roof, looked at himself for
a minute, then slid down the length of it, looked quite silly.
Other birds included:
Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets
Hermit Thrush-2
Pileated Woodpeckers-2 one was the closest has ever been to the
house,@5ft.
Y-B Sapsuckers-2
Downy W.
Hairy W.
N. Flickers- at least 2
R-bellied W.
Yellow-rumed Warblers
Pine Warblers
Juncos
Wh-Thr. Sparrows
Mourning Doves- the 30 or so I pretty much see everyday
House Finch- 3 males- the forst this fall, usually don't have many
as well as all the regulars
I keep waiting for a Winter Wren to show up,......
