Dear Birders:
Just back from a week of searching for rarities in NC and NE US which
started with the Cinnamon Teal at Goldsboro for the state list, when much to
my amazement upon crossing the dam at our lake, Lake Medcalf of Sunset
Lakes, there swimming close by among a bunch of other ducks were a gorgeous
Male and a I think a Female, Cinnamon Teal. A first for me in this
location where I have lived for 12 years.
If you need directions, E-mail me. Right now I'm birded out, and have to
watch the Panthers. If you have Fussell's book, I think he describes our
lake as a pond, at any rate directions are there!
We have lots of woodies, ring-neckeds, widgeons, gadwalls, also on the lake
(pbgrebes & moorhens and coots).
I want to thank Eric and Greg for posting their nice pictures of the teal in
Goldsboro (and the Vermillion) and for Eric's directions.
Alas, I did not get the hoped-for remaining TWO blanks filled on my race for
my lifetime ABA 700 by 2001. Sob.
GOOD BIRDING AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
