Went to Ebenezer Point on Lake Wylie(not the Ebenezer Point in Raleigh),
south of Charlotte today. This was the spot of the Snow Bunting last winter.
There was no Snow Bunting this time, but, unexpectedly, there were quite a
few other good birds at this small park.
There were:
4-- Common Loons
1-- Pied Billed Grebe
3-- Horned Grebes
2-- Great Blue Herons
2-- Ruddy Ducks
1-- Black Duck
4-- Buffleheads
50-- Mallards- Some of the mallard females were normal, but others were
almost blonde, is this the latest fashion, or what?
40-- Canada Geese
1-- drake RED BREASTED MERGANSER - this bird was quite unexpected, but it was
only about 30 yds. from the shoreline and had it in the spotting scope.
Absolutely a beautiful bird. Saw a pair of these birds last year on Lake
Norman, but from my knowledge I think this is a pretty good bird for the
Peidmont.
1-- Red Shouldered Hawk
1-- Red Tailed Hawk
10-- Bonapartes Gulls
75-- Ring Billed Gulls
1-- 1st year HERRING GULL- this bird was sitting alongside the Bonapartes and
Ring Bills.
1-- Belted Kingfisher
1-- Sapsucker
1-- RC Kinglet
3-- Pine Warblers
2-- Bluebirds
Overall a nice day---------Alan Kneidel Charlotte, NC
