The vultures who were roosting on the communications tower on I 40 have
dispersed. I have seen smaller daytime roosts out and about in the counties
that i travel in. I was off line due to computer malfunction but wanted to
note my sightings: On McCray Rd in Ala co. I had 2 Hooded merg. about 1
month ago along with a norther harrier. Also on Pittsboro-Goldston rd about
6 weeks ago, I had a red headed woodpecker feeding on the ground, it was an
immature. Have had many accipiters but I am still struggling to ID them but
a moving car is not the place to learn. Several Kestrels have been swaying
in the wind on the wires. Last and most recent, I had a yellow bellied
sapsucker (unusual for my house) flying out to pluck the dried pokeberry
berries off the bush. I got good views of its belly also. A nice morning
treat. this was in Hillsborough, NC.
