Black-chinned HB at Medcalf

C'Birders And a special note for Harry Legrand

Susan Campbell can tell you more I'm sure, but she pointed out to me when
banding Mr. Tea that the Male's beak is supposed to be shorter than the
female's, and this fell within the guidelines. She has all the
measurements. I did notice a difference between it and the Ruby-throated,
but then I spent a lot of time all told in the 3 weeks period looking at
both, daily in fact, for the Black-chinned, and as the R-T started coming to
my house I kept commenting on how small its bill looked. These things are
so subtle it does behoove one to take time to study. I think that the
tail-pumping black-chinned is so obvious I wonder how I never caught on
before this experience.

Good birding. I will not be updating re the local rarities daily anymore.
Call me 910-579-2446 and I will pass on McCormick's number to you. Toast,
the Cinn. Teal was seen by the bander and Barbara G. on Sat.
