Kinglets galore!

Hi there,

I went outside at lunchtime today with plans to do a power walk and get my exercise for the day. But I ended up birding instead. :-)

I cannot believe the numbers of Ruby and Golden Crowned Kinglets this season! Especialy Golden-Crowned, the trees were full of them when I pished by a roadside ditch.

Was it last year or the year before when the number of Ruby Crowns seemed to drop so sharply? Anyway, they certainly seem to have made a comeback. I'm glad; they are such fun little birds. Tiny bird, big attitude, all topped with a little flourescent-red Mohawk hairdo.

Mr. Ruby Crown was the first "new" bird I saw after moving to NC, on December 24th, 1994, so he'll always be special to me. :-)
