pea island

Jan. 16, 2001

Pea Island:

Little gull, a life bird for us. We only saw one at a
time (adult), but may have been more. With abundant
Bonaparte's Gulls. Viewed from beach across from north
end of North Pond.

Eurasion widgeon, at N. end of NOrth Pond.

American bittern (our 2nd this week) beside Hwy 12
just N. of Oregon Inlet, hunting along a ditch that
runs perpendicular to road (across from campground).

lesser scaup, N. end of NOrth pond

3 immature black-crowned night herons, 1 mature

These are highlights; lots of swans, and usual
wintering ducks. We spent some time viewing snowgeese
beside Hwy. 12, saw no Ross's.
