At about 5:45 pm. Saturday, I heard a strange noise in the front yard. It sounded rather like a Mockingbird on steroids imitating a Carolina Wren!
The call was a loud "Shee-yute" repeated at intervals of perhaps 25-30 seconds.
When I went out on the porch, I saw the silhouette of a bird, larger than a crow, take off *silently* from one of the oak trees in the front yard. It was immediately followed by another bird the same size, presumably the same species since I saw no signs of harassment or sounds of chattering, etc.
I heard just the briefest "hoo ooo oo" as the birds flew away. I assume these must have been owls, but what kind?
