Harris and Jordan Lakes

Howdy,

On Sunday Joe and I birded around Harris and Jordan Lakes. At Harris there were gobs of American Coots on the lake, two Ring-necked Ducks, and close views of adorable Ruddy Ducks. Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Eastern Phoebe, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, bluebird, and junco (just a few) were some of the other birds we spotted.

At Jordan I was disappointed with Ebenezer and Seaforth since we didn't see ducks, loons, eagles, or grebes. There were GOBS of Ring-billed Gulls!

Before checking out the swamp on Big Woods Road for Red-headed Woodpecker (saw one), we stopped at the Pacific-sloped Flycatcher spot. It was a year ago we saw him, just before the record 20.3 inches of snow in Raleigh. The area was quiet Sunday.

Looking forward to CBC in Atlantic Beach this weekend. I'll be selling copies of A Birdwatcher's Guide to the Triangle. See ya there!

Happy birding! Karen Bearden
