This AM @ 8:30 noticed some movement about 30ft. or so in the woods on the
side of the house. Saw a beautiful adult Cooper's Hawk perched on a fallen
pine eating something. My view was obscured by some branches, but every now
and then would catch a glimpse of the prey, gray and largish, hidden by the
pine trunk. Was guessing Mourning Dove or squirrel, couldn't see it clearly
or long enough to decide whether was seeing fur or feathers! After about 45
min- 1 hour the bird flew off and I went out to see, was a squirrel. Nothing
left but skull, some fur, and skin, which was still partially intact, with
just the meat being pulled out. Was relieved to find it wasn't a Thrush or
my Oriole, who is still at the feeder often.
