We happen to live just near the RTP, and the grackles are visiting our
yards, too. My question is, are they eating insects or seeds? I would
suspect seeds, unless the insect populations are already increasing. What
a boon it would be to have the grackles sweep through and clean up pests. Of
course, they may eat "good" insects, too!
It is a beautiful sight to see them in a flock of thousands, looking like
a black shape-shifting cloud. My three-year old son said, "Wow, that's
amazing!!"
