Dear Carolinabirders,
I would just like to correct an erroneous posting of a Common Murre at
Rodanthe Pier this weekend.
Josh Rose reported that I had seen an alcid which I identified as a Common
Murre. Actually, I identified it as a "Tordalk", which translates into
Razorbill in English (the identification of which was pretty easy since I
got good looks of the bird, and since I have seen dozens of them in Europe
before).
Sorry for confusing the English names of those alcids. Nonetheless, you
guys should really aim at a little more nomenclatural uniformity. The
reason why I mixed them up is because I thought the Murre's English name
should be Guillemot. Now guess why I thought that...
