Nesting material yesterday spilled out the front of a formerly empty bird
bottle under my eaves at home -- Carolina Wren at work!
This morning a Brown Thrasher sang very seriously in a tree near my parking
spot in Chapel Hill -- the first I've heard there this year.
And a Northern Mockingbird carrying a beakful of what looked like tissue
paper scraps disappeared into a yaupon holly on the edge of the Morehead
Planetarium parking lot and reappeared with beak empty. (Did you guys ever
notice how mockingbirds just love parking lots as long as they have a few
shrubs around or in them?)
The calendar may say February, but it's spring!
