Saturday's pelagic trip

I thoroughly enjoyed one of Brian Patteson's pelagic trips out of Hatteras
Saturday 3/3. Despite the predictions of inclement weather, the rain held
off and the sea conditions were quite placid. In addition to seabirds we
visited with 2 Humpback Whales (one fluked up twice), a Loggerhead Sea
Turtle, a couple of Ocean Sunfish, and Common & Bottlenose Dolphins. Birds
were represented by the following partial list:

Little Gull (good looks at adults)
Great Skua (some nice passes from bow to stern)
N. Fulmar
Red Phalarope
Lesser Black-backed Gull
Thayer's Gull (seen by a few folks)
Razorbill (hundreds)
small alcid sp.
...and the usual loons, gulls, cormies and gannets

Pretty good for a March afternoon.

Also had a Barn Owl sitting on one of the "Area Behind this Sign Closed"
signs along NC12 at South Pond.

Best,
