Dear Carolinabirders:
An immature Golden Eagle appeared at my farm in Piney Creek yesterday
morning scavenging a recently deceased deer carcase. This bird returned
several times yesterday, last seen at about 3:00 PM. It has been back to
the carcase at least twice this morning, though with near blizzard
conditions prevailing, observation at nearly 400 meters has been difficult.
Also, a Red-Tailed Hawk was on this carcase briefly, as well as both
vultures, ravens, and crows.
By my records, this is the third occurrence of Golden Eagles here in March,
the others in '93 and '96, and a November '99 bird.
