Jerry and all,
At 11:30 AM today, I was in the parking lot of the realty office that
borders one side of the WCHL tower field, looking toward the area which you
described the mobbing crows to be at earlier. The crows were there as well
as a few upset songbirds. I saw a white figure on the far side of the grass,
which looked owlish in size, but when I looked through my binoculars I saw a
large, pure white, long-haired cat sitting upright! I watched it turn and
walk away into the trees towards the offices and apartments. Maybe some of
the mobbing Rob and others are hearing is actually being caused by lurking
cats, I'm sure there are more than a few outdoor cats who live at the condos
and apts.
Sounds like the best time to see this owl is between 11:00PM -12:00 AM.
and from what I can tell, the streets all named as owl sighting locations are
all adjacent to eachother from east to west, though in 2 diff. apt. complexes.

were in a tree making a racket below the Franklin Square Office Park just
above Booker Creek as is flows under Franklin Street and just adjacent to
the WCHL tower field. I looked and looked but saw nothing....other than the
crows.... As an educated (not even) guess, I would guess that he is in the
woods somewhere between Foxcroft and the WCHL tower field but I really don't
know... A little further back from Franklin Street, along Booker Creek, the
woods between the two areas narrows quite a bit but... I have never seen the
owl along the path that parallels that creek and I walk that way every
morning I am in Chapel Hill... usually before 8 AM.
