Still have the adult male Baltimore Oriole coming to the feeders regularly,
and still have some Pine Siskins. This AM, saw a male Bluebird come out of
the nest box for the first time this spring.
Saw either a Comma or Questionmark as I walked out the front door this AM,
was right by the door., An E. Tiger Swallowtail was by the driveway
yesterday, and a few Mourning Cloaks this past week.
Last night, 3/7, Rob Sutter, of the Nature Conservancy, spoke at New Hope
Audubon's monthly meeting. He's on a team that is looking at stopover
habitats for migratory birds. I was aware of some of the TNC "Wings"
programs, but not about this particular program. According to Rob, much is
being done to try and protect breeding and wintering habitats for various
birds, but not so for stopover habitats. They're trying to assess and map
out important stopovers on migration routes, so they can begin to protect
these areas. They are looking at three categories of stops, that would be
used under diff. circumstances and for diff. lengths of time. I was excited
to hear that they're doing this, just one more thing to make me glad I'm a
member of TNC and always carry my TNC Visa card with me. :-)
