I started out at daybreak this morning, making a loop that took me
from Fayetteville across to the east side of the Cape Fear River to
Erwin, Rhodes Pond, Old Bluff Church, and River Road before recrossing
the river and returning to town.
I saw 42 species of birds including 3 year birds: barn swallow,
rough-winged swallow, and common yellowthroat. I saw three kestrels and
a loggerhead shrike along River Road. In addition to the birds I saw, I
heard the signature "wee-tee-oh" of a hooded warbler at one location on
River Road. The bird would not show itself and when I worked my way
into the woods, it shut up. I'll have to look there again.
