Sharpies without question nest in the Black Mtns (Mt. Mitchell area). I
observed a family harassing a crow a couple of summers ago up at MOMI. A
falconer in Rowan County took a Sharpie (legally) from a nest in recent
years, so they do nest in the Piedmont on occasion. When I was hawking in
Raleigh years ago, there were a couple of occasions where my Harris Hawk was
buzzed by a wintering Sharpie.
