Among the many thousand Am. Coots wintering on L. Murray (as seen from the
Lexington Co.residential peninusula of Power Point)Wednesday and Thursday of
this week: several hundred Ring-necked Ducks, 10+ Canvasbacks, 20+ Redheads, a
few Lesser Scaup. Small numbers of Common Loons, Horned Grebes and
Pied-billed Grebes. The evening gathering of Ring-billed Gulls near the dam is
also impressive; someone should attempt to estimate the numbers-many thousands
apparently roosting on the water.
