At last some larger numbers of waterfowl appeared on Lake Julian in Buncombe
County south of Asheville. There were at least 41 Common Loons on the
railroad track side of the lake, although it was hard to get a complete count
as they would keep diving again before I could get them all counted. Almost
all were in breeding plumage. There were also 32 Lesser Scaup and 12
Ring-necked Ducks in the bay near the picnic area.
