Caw Caw birdwalk



The following are highlights of the 3 hour Saturday morning birdwalk at
Charleston County's Caw Caw Park on US highway 17 south in Ravenel, SC led
by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am. A small fee is charged.  For more information

April 5, 2003

62 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day.  The most interesting were;
125 White Ibis, 10 Wood Storks, 2 Ospreys ( on nest incubating ), 2 adult
and 2 baby Bald Eagles ( babies starting to flap wings and jump about a
foot ), 1 Northern Harrier, 25 Killdeer, 100 Greater Yellowlegs, 3 Lesser
Yellowlegs, 1 Solitary Sandpiper, 40 Least Sandpipers, 2 Pectoral
Sandpipers, 1 Dunlin, 5 Common Snipe, 1 Hairy Woodpecker, 5 Pileated
Woodpeckers, 2 purple Martins, 2 Barn Swallow, 5 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers
 several nests ), 10 White-eyed Vireos ( nest ), 6 Red-eyed Vireos, 10
Northern Parula Warblers, 5 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 6 Yellow-throated
Warblers 1 Pine Warbler, 5 Prothonotary Warblers, 1 Worm-eating Warbler, 5
Common Yellowthroats, 1 Summer Tanager, 2 Savannah Sparrows, 1 Swamp
Sparrow, and 2 Goldfinches.
