I read Randy Emmit's response on the tripod (and was envious). I was on the
waiting list (Eagle Optics)for the Swarovski 80 mm ATS since December and
finally got it first week in April. I think it is an excellent scope - I
like the focus mechanism, the fact that the eyepieces lock on and it
balances well on the tripod. I got the zoom eyepiece and if you wanted you
could spend some of the leftover money on a fixed eyepiece or two. If you
are going to hike with it as I do, I would suggest a Tri Pak from Wandering
Tattler. With a lightweight tripod like Randy suggests, you would not feel
much weight at all and your hands would be free for a quick look with
binoculars before you take time to set up the scope.

Leitz? Swarovski? Nikon? What extras would you add on?
