Black-necked Stilts at Cedar Island NC

7 Black-necked Stilts were seen this afternoon along the beach to the west
of the Cedar Island Ferry station. These birds were seen less than 1/2 mile
down the beach. They were seen in the shallows behind the beach where water
has remained from the heavy rains 2 days ago (and the rest of this summer!).

On the drive to Cedar Island there was an Adult Bald Eagle perched in a tree
just outside Stacy NC. This could have been the same bird seen by the
Carteret Bird Club which visited Davis NC yesterday and saw an adult Bald
Eagle soaring.

Also, there were 3 Northern Harriers coursing the Cedar Island Marshes, 2 on
the drive up and 1 on the way home.

Seen at the Cedar Island Ferry station beach:

100+ Dowitcher ssp
50+ Peeps (none were Least)
30 Semipalmeted Plovers
10+ Spotted Sandpipers
4 Greater Yellowlegs
3 Lesser Yellowlegs
3 Black Skimmers (one skimming!)

The Terns were mostly Royal, with a few Least, 2 Forster's and 1 Common.
