Burroughs Wellcome has filed a lawsuit against SmithKline Beecham charging that SmithKline's new antiviral drug, Famvir, infringes two of Burrough's patents. SmithKline denies the infringement. Burroughs claims that after SmithKline's drug is administered, the active molecule that is produced in the human body is "virtually indentical" to molecules claimed in Burroughs' patent on active nucleosides.
