PEARL HARBOR ATTACK

HEARINGS
BEFORE THE
JOINT COMMITTEE ON THE INVESTIGATION
OF THE PEARL HARBOR ATTACK

CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES
SEVENTY-NINTH CONGRESS

FIRST SESSION

PURSUANT TO

S. Con. Res. 27

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN
INVESTIGATION OF THE ATTACK ON PEARL
HARBOR ON DECEMBER 7, 1941, AND
EVENTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES
RELATING THERETO

Collected here are documents from the 23 volume, 40 part, 25,000 page report of HEARINGS BEFORE THE JOINT COMMITTEE ON THE INVESTIGATION OF THE PEARL HARBOR ATTACK CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES SEVENTY-NINTH CONGRESS which was released on July 20, 1946.

The purpose of this collection is to provide the COMPLETE story of the attack, as compiled by the years of investigations that went on between the attack and the release of the Hearing reports. Instead of a few lines from a document or a few words from a person's testimony you will now be able to see the items in context and to check them against other people's words and other related documents.

This is an on-going project begun by volunteer workers years ago and which will continue until the entire document set is on-line. The nine investigations into the attack are available as of 12/28/96. Additional files of major importance will also be made available as they are readied for the Web. Priority for the scanning of the remainder of the files will be set by two methods: the volunteers' own judgment and requests from you. If there is a particular exhibit or section of testimony you would like to see, write us at the address below, or write the webmaster, and we'll try to accomodate you.

CAUTION! Some of these files are rather large. In most cases we have made compressed files available for downloading as an alternative to reading on-line. The files are Zipped Word for Windows 6.0a format.

The Pearl Harbor Working Group FTP site holds the zip files. If you can't find the zip you are looking for, contact us and we'll help you locate it.

The Pearl Harbor Working Group can be contacted at pha@omni.cc.purdue.edu

If you are unable to read the files via the Web, they can be downloaded via anonymous FTP.

Note: Many of these files were originally uploaded to byrd.mu.wvnet.edu's ftp server. Those files migrated to ftp.purdue.edu when byrd closed down. The present effort is to convert those files to HTML for reading online. If you've already collected everything from the byrd site you may simply want to check in here at intervals to see "what's new". A chronological history of additions will be available for you to keep track.

With the large amount of information yet to processed it should be evident that this site will be under construction for quite a while. Be prepared for major and minor changes as we continue the effort. This site is being used as a teaching project for several different disciplines and modification may be made to meet the requirements of the facaulty and students involved.
