Premier
TOJO's speech was published here on the 30th in the newspapers under conspicuous
headlines. They printed especially noticeably the sentence, "The
exploitation of the Asiatics by Americans must be purged with vengeance'."
On the other hand, according to the newspapers, a White House secretary has
issued an announcement to the effect that Secretary HULL had at once telephoned
the President, resting at Warm Springs, concerning the Premier's speech and, as
a result, the President, changing his schedule, was leaving Warm Springs on the
afternoon of the 30th and is expected to return to Washington on the morning of
the first. Inasmuch as this speech will be used extensively for propaganda
purposes by the Americans, will you please take suitable steps. Furthermore,
will you please send me at once copies of the text (both Japanese and English)?
