CHARLES C. PULLIAM

Associate Professor and Director, Program on Aging

BIOGRAPHICAL PROFILE

Charles Pulliam joined the UNC Division of Pharmacy Practice in 1970. In addition to developing a Therapeutics course that year, he initiated the first clinical pharmacy service at UNC Hospitals. His interest in aging and geriatrics grew from his clinical practice on the Coronary Care Unit at UNC Hospitals, and in 1979 his clinical practice shifted to the Carol Woods Retirement Community and its long- term care facility. In 1986 he established the School of Pharmacy’s Program on Aging. Today the program promotes teaching and research in aging through educational offerings, model geriatric practices, and post-graduate training programs that target the older patient's pharmaceutical care needs. His present clinical responsibilities include consultant services for 220 long-term care beds, outpatient clinical service with the UNC Geriatric Evaluation Team, and clinical teaching in Geriatrics. His research focuses on health services research and the pharmacoepidemiology of adverse drug reactions. He is a Fellow of both the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
