USS OGLALA (CM-4)

Moored next to Helena at 1010 Dock, Oglala was severely damaged when a torpedo passed beneath her and detonated against Helena. The concussion from this explosion ruptured her port hull, causing extensive flooding. Moved astern of Helena, Oglala capsized to port. Two attempts to raise her failed, but the third attempt on July 3, 1942 was successful. Repaired in drydock, she sailed for the West Coast in December and was converted into an engine repair ship. She was recommissioned ARG-1 on February 28, 1944.
