 The Keel is Laid The keel is laid March 16, 1914 at the New York Navy Yard (sometimes known as the Brooklyn Navy Yard).
 
 Building progresses Building progresses: BB-39 under construction (Photo dated May 3rd, 1914).
 
 Under Construction June 1914 The shape of the ship begins to take place... sides of the hull are rising into place on June 2nd, 1914.
 
 Under Construction July 1914 The compartments are starting to take form, July 2nd 1914.
 
  Down the slipways: BB-39 is launched at 1:10 PM, June 19th, 1915. She had been christened with a bottle of water, which many sailors considered bad luck.
 
 Arizona Slides out A primer-red BB-39 slides out into the East River, towards the Williamsburg Bridge as two tugboats move out after her during her launching on June 19th, 1915.
 
 Christening Day November 10, 1916 Christening Day, November 10th, 1916 and BB-39, now officially the USS Arizona, heads out for her first shakedown cruise. After calibrating her compass Arizona headed to Hampton Roads, Virginia to fire her guns for the first time.
