Encryption Issues

I found more sites for high level encryption than against.......but
generally Clinton's Administration is against High Level Encryption due
to obvious security issues.

A bill sponsored by Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-W.Va., supports high level
encryption, and the free exchange of software between contries using
languages that would be "virtually impossible for outsiders to
decipher." All of the big software companies, and businesses interested
in e-commerce are very supportive of this bill.

Internet Governing Bodies Criticize Encryption Policies

- the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) and
the Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG) issued a joint
statement
criticizing the government's stand on the encryption issue.

In the statement released to the public this week, IAB and
IESG voiced their
concern with "the need for increased protection of
international commercial
transactions on the Internet, and [with] the need to offer all
Internet users an
          adequate degree of privacy."

IAB and IESG, the two bodies that oversee Internet
architecture and
standards, argue that the government's current policies on
encryption go
"against the interests of consumers and the business
community, are largely
irrelevant to issues of military security, and provide only a
marginal or illusory
          benefit to law enforcement agencies."

Supporters say encryption bill will save jobs

A coalition of small and large businesses will
support a controversial encryption bill that would allow U.S.
companies to
export software over the Internet by using a complex set of
security codes....
