homework #2
Paul,
Okay, here are my two sites. First, let's talk about the one I think is
bad:
http://www.drudge.com
I think the minute you go to it you will agree that 'ol Matt Drudge
needs some serious professional help.
My reasons are as follows:
1) Too much text
2) The yellow color is hideous
3) Graphics? The web can do graphics?
4) The Navigation metaphors are mixed--sometimes the links are people's
names, other
times they are news articles. I don't recognize any of the names...do I
click, or just not bother?
5) The column layout resizes when you make the window narrower, but
then you have to scroll down, down, down!
All right, enough bashing that guy, even though it was fun.
The site I really like is:
http://www.techreview.com/
This site has a lot going for it:
1) No gimmicks, the main page uses nested tables--no 3D effects, crazy
backgrounds or other trash
2) Tasteful use of graphics, nothing in excess
3) Clear and understandable navigational features
4) The ad banners are there, but not in your face, in fact you hardly
notice them ;-)
5) The rest of the site is consistent with the main page
