The Raleigh Dart League is an amateur steel-tip league, run and supported by its members. It is open to anyone who enjoys the sport of darts and wishes to play in a friendly, competitive atmosphere. There are seven divisions ranging from A through G to include all skill levels. Teams may have 6 to 10 players. Players must supply their own darts and pay a league fee of $20.00 at the beginning of the season.
There are 4 sets of games in each match, as follows:
- 6 games of Singles 301 (DIDO)
- 6 games of Singles Cricket
- 3 games of Doubles Cricket
- 3 games of Doubles 501 (FIDO)
Tied games are decided by one game of 1001 (FIDO). Everyone who played in the match participates.
Teams play each team once at their home board locations and once at the opponents' home board locations. Here is a list of RDL host establishments:

You can find a team in any one of several ways. You can leave your name and phone number(s) at any of the establishments listed above, you can contact our Membership Director, Dave Berry, at (919)990-1218(Dave will know which teams lack members and can pass your name on to those captains), or you can come out to the two-day pre-season team sign-up. Again, Dave can give you dates and times.
Many of the places where we play carry a selection of dart goodies, or you can try one of these: Pipes By George on Hillsborough St. in W. Raleigh knows their stuff and if they don't have what you need, they're willing to order. Another (probably less expensive) bet is Darts by the Ton, which is operated by Ginger Rivenbark at the fleamarket on the State Fairgrounds. If you're willing to wait, also try the CyberDarts link on the RDL home page. They have an on-line catalogue.
It's just too long to list here, but team captains are provided with a current copy at the beginning of every season, so you can borrow it and give it a look.
Don't panic! They're generally mind-boggling if you've never seen one, but the layout is pretty much the same from season to season, so once you know what to look for, you'll be fine. Team names appear across the top, dates of matches down the side. Under each team name, you'll see the name of that team's home board location, along with which boards they play on, if their home board has multiple boards. The teams are also numbered (this is according to their division standing at the beginning of the season), and these are the numbers that appear in the boxes on schedule. If your team is number 1, for example, in the column under your team name, you will see other boxes with other teams's numbers. This is who you're playing on a given week; Away matches are usually indicated somehow (by shaded boxes, "at 2," or whatever). Also provided are the names and phone numbers of all team captains in your division, as well as the phone number of each home board location. That's all there is to it!
All-stars are unusually high or unlikely marks that you hit during a match (i.e., anything over 100 pts. in '01 is a Ton+, and you'll be marked down for an All-Star on your score sheet. In Cricket, 3-Bulls on up, or 5-Marks on up are All-Stars, as long as you can use each mark you hit, either toward closing numbers or as points). The percentage becomes part of your season stats.
Check with your team captain to see a copy of the Tons of Newsletter. This is updated weekly and every so often will feature a breakdown of player stats by team and division, or check here, as the RDL home page will soon feature the same information.
There is a three-round tournament in each division at the end of the season. This tournament will not affect division standings, but bragging rights are wonderful and trophies aren't an eyesore, either. Results appear in the last Tons of Newsletter of the season, and will soon appear here as well. There is an End-of-Season Banquet for all members with food, beverages, trophy presentations and a Luck-of-the-Draw Tournament to wind things up. Now you know where your twenty bucks went! Also, many of the locations that host RDL matches hold Luck-of-the Draws on a regular basis.
