'Lectronic Score Sheet Known Issues & Bugs
Like all exciting new technologies, sometimes things don't work exactly as we think they should right out of the box. The TDRL 'Lectronic Score Sheet is an evolving and ongoing project, so you should check this page weekly if you're planning on using it with any great regularity (and we sure hope you will!).
Most of the problems that we are aware of right now involve the shortcomings in the various browsers abroad in the land rather than in the score sheet itself. With that in mind, we'll run down the problems that we're aware of, from newest to oldest. We'll stick a "bug report" box at the bottom of this page so you can let us know of problems you've encountered. Or, you could just email us.
Release 1.1 - 16 January 1998
- MS Internet Explorer 3.02 Update - The addition of Microsofts Mail and News add-on (available from www.microsoft.com/ie/download) adds the ability of IE to properly send mail when it encounters a HTML "mailto:" tag; it does not, however provide any support for forms processing. If anyone has IE4, you can test its ability to properly process the 'Lectronic Score Sheet by filling out our Cheezy Feedback Form. If it can send us mail from that form it should be able tohandle the score sheet.
First Release - 8 January 1998
- Opera 3.0 (beta versions) - JavaScript support is not fully implemented. The wide-release version 3.0 is said to resolve this problem. We sure hope so, since we're big fans of Opera. The beta versions will happily take all your information and then just sit there when you mash the "Submit!" button and do nothing. Bummer...
- Opera 3.0 (beta versions) - No support for password no-echo in forms. You enter your password at the bottom of the 'Lectronic Score Sheet and Opera does not recognize it and keeps insisting that you need to enter it. A fix is rumored to be part of the wide-release version 3.0.
- Internet Explorer 3.0x - No internal support for the HTML "mailto:" tag. IE needs an external mail client and cannot pass the collected information from the JavaScript to it for emailing. Perhaps IE 4 has an internal mail client, but since we have no intention of ever using IE again, we'll never know unless some hardy soul out there drops us a line about it. Calling Janet Reno...
- Brain-Dead Browsers - If you're using a text-based browser or one that pre-dates Java, you need to get with the New Modern Decade! Anyone using AOHell browsers are encouraged to send us a report. Please include a version number with your report. We'd appreciate it!
- Netscape Navigator 3.0x - No known issues. We assume that's true as well for version 4.x as well.
