Star-crossed

The sky met us at night,
heaven touching earth
through you and me
trapped in a star globe,
a cold and dry atmosphere
where only our breath held drops
of moisture, the only clouds
of our own making. We glittered,
the globe around us, covering
sky, cradling ground, keeping us
in a flat, sandy field until
held upside down and shaken
so the stars spun,
floated close,
fluttered
down, all around us.
