So, a little discussion of outputting ASCII from TeX
source... TeX doesn't really like to output ASCII.

What needs to be done is to create a style that uses
only a monospace font (courier) and only one type size.
For readability, it is better to use left-justification
only, and not left-right justification, which can cause
strange spreading of words to adjust text.
Then the margins and page parameters need to be set up
so that the text formats nicely on a page. Standard
American page size is different from standard European,
alas; the page comes out shorter.

If the American page size is accomodated (which would
result in some wasted whitespace for Europeans) then
my recommendation is to use 66 lines by 85 columns for
your ASCII page layout; this works well for 10 character
per inch output at typical line spacing. A ten-column
margin allows enough room for punched paper for 3-ring
binders. This leaves actual text line width of only 65
characters. Note that this page size still allows good
display of text online, since some right margin whitespace
is the only part that is pushed offscreen on a typical
80-column display.

The original copy of this file was uploaded in ASCII mode; a new uncorrupted
version is in /pub/Linux/Incoming.
