Section 9 is the "traditional" place for kernel-level
stuff and it is an excellent decision to put those pages
there. Section 9 is where Encore Computer put parallel
processing manpages for the MACH kernel, and that section
designation survived and was passed to the OSF when they
acquired the technology from Encore; it is in use for such
purposes by OSF members. (The general public generally
doesn't get to see these pages, of course, since they don't
normally do kernel programming.)

It is a thrill to see my sole contribution to UNIX
perpetuated, since I was the tech writer with the arrogance
to initially create section 9 manpages.
