Peter,
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (formerlly SCS) of USDA is
currently working through an evaluation of its Conservation Technical
Assistance program. One of the main facets is the use of a composite soil
quality index. The person responsible for this index is:
Ray Sinclair
USDA-NRCS
100 Centennial Mall North, Room 152
Lincoln, NE 68508-3866
(402) 437-5423 and FAX (402) 437-5336
EPIC, the Natural Resource Inventory (NRI), and other management databases
are the sources for the specific parameters (indicators) related to
erosion.
Hope this is helpful,
Ray

Aquacultural Simulation Models (Kelly-Anne Lively <livelyka@tuns.ca>)

Subject: Aquacultural Simulation Models
Hello Everyone,
My name is Kelly-Anne Lively and I am a graduate student at the Technical
University of Nova Scotia. I am new to your discussion list and very new to
aquacultural simulation modelling. Although I realize that this is not a
purely aquaculture related discussion group I thought many of the
discussions might be related.
The project I am involved with is the creation of a simulation/forecasting
production model for a commercial cold water mollusc farm and the company
has little to no data available. Right now I am still in the very early
stages of collecting literature on this or related subjects and would
sincerely appreciate any input on materials that I should look into reading.
Thank You,
Kelly-Anne

Hello all, can anyone refer me to web/gopher sites and to articles
on EPIC - not the software itself but to
descriptions/instructions/modifications? Has anyone heard of
modifications/adaptations to the budget generator that goes along with EPIC?
If you have any questions do not hesitate to email me. Many thanks
for your help. Regards, JCL

RE: Raspberries molding? (David Donaldson <davidd@sea.ar.ispnet.com>)

Wait til next year.
You really should remove this year's berries so your plants will put up new
canes. You should also cut the top of the bare root plant off at ground
level when you plant. This prevents fruit from forming the first year. The
new canes that grow this summer will bear fruit next year. The canes you
are picking will die later this fall.

I'm wondering if David or any one else out there can tell me
if the raspberries I got from Park Seed will ever produce
the kind of rb's we dream of.
These bare root plants arrived in June and I planted them
per directions, plenty of leaf mold, pine bark mulch and well dug
soil. They are healthy and bug free and get about 6 hours of sun a
day, perhaps a bit more.
They have had lots and lots of rain and are producing a few ripe
berries every day.
Although the berries taste good they don't taste great. I pick
them when they go dark red, but before the squirrels
and birds go after them?
Will they get better next year?
Do they need more sun? less water? more time on the bush?
Should I replace them with blackberries? can I grow blackberries
near raspberries?

Dear colleagues, I am a new subscriber to the list.
Areas of Interest: Agricultural NonPoint Source Pollution, esp.
Water Pollution Modelling. Applications of models to constructed wetland/
design. Ag landscape modelling via GIS.
Work mainly with AGNPS, CREAM, and originally authored models of wetlands
in C, also work with ARCINFO and GRASS.
Currently refining a patch model of herbicide fate in wetland plants to
later be developed on the landscape scale.
I'm interested in hearing from anyone working with landscape models,
especially in the arena of environmental fate of ag chemicals.
Thanks.
