Hi!
I've just joined this mailbase, and would like to introduce myself. I
have just started a PhD at Newcastle University (UK), and will be
looking at pesticide movement models. My main interest is a
Mediterranean climate, and the greenhouse environment. I don't know
much about modelling at the moment, so I will just listen and learn
for a while.

Dear Ag modellers,
I am new to this list, and have no idea what topics have been discussed. My
modelling experience has been focussed on the individual animal, so
farm-level modelling is new to me. I am involved in a project that requires
setting up simple models of extensive livestock (cattle, sheep, camelids)
production systems in Latin America, in order to identify weaknesses in
these systems. Do any of you have any suggestions about current models that
could be adapted to this task? At this stage, we are looking for something
simple (e.g., an Excel spreadsheet) that maybe could be added to in the
future as needed. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Some time pased before I could respond to your comment.
It doesn't seem as simple as that. There is still debate on the most
important factor that influences the choice of the spatial interpolator:
Collins and Bolstad, 1996: data characteristics (range, variance and
correlation with other variables) are most important. These characteristics
change with temporal and spatial scale, therefore the choice is temporal
and spatial scale dependent.
MacEachen and Davidson, 1987: data measurement accuracy, data density and
distribution have most influence on interpolation accuracy.
These are different viewpoints.

Accuracy of a surface makes sense with respect to all the
data you have. At a certain level (may be watershed/regional level)
measurement of noise may be minimal than other levels where
more accurate measurements may be neccessary (ex., bowen ratio
at the watershed level vs. weighing lysimeter at the field
scale level for ET measurements). So I would say accuracy
of a surface is resolution independent and a function of
the number of data points (ex., the GCV uses this concept).
