ISIA-Tatura is an Institute of the Natural Resources and Environment
department of the Victorian State government. One avenue of research
at ISIA-Tatura is the investigation of plant salt tolerance. Two
directions currently being pursued are native Australian grasses, and
Leptochloa fusca.
I am looking for sources of seed for a planned appraisal of the
vigour and salt tolerance of different provenances of Leptochloa
fusca (formally Diplachne fusca, and known variously, and perhaps
erroneously, as Kallar grass, Karnal grass, Brown beetle grass ....).
Although L. fusca is commonly propagated vegetatively, I need seed to
simplify Australian quarantine requirements.
In another series of trials we plan to compare the salt tolerance of
various Australian grasses with perceived salt tolerance. A
collection has already been amassed from saline areas of the Loddon
Valley, Victoria. Additional seed sources are being sought.
Some funds are available to assist collection &/or for purchase of
seed.
If you have access to appropriate seed supplies, I would appreciate
you contacting me.
