Certainly the early RCA's did. The color tv with the motorized wheel had to be one that played to CBS's incompatable color tv standard. Used some kind of field sequential color. While perhaps philosophically appealing (simpler for sure than the finally-adopted NTSC color system), this color system had intractable troubles never solved, e.g. spurious flashes of bright white light, problems with broad areas of heavily (color) saturated color, fast moving objects, etc. Lastly, would've meant junking all then existing B&W sets. And giant spinning wheel & lenses severely limited CRT size, viewing angle, motor noise. Reminds me of early Nipkow disk mechanical TV a la Baird. Original Note: From: George Levites To: Sent: Tue, 02 Jan 2007 16:35 Subject: Fwd: Re: DuMont Wonder if DuMont made this one? Console set with top hinged cover. CRT was mounted vertically and there was a mirror (maybe more than one) associated with console lid. My uncle in Jersey City had one circa 1948. There were many tubes and I recall that frequent adjustments were needed to keep the picture usable.I saw my first Hopalong Cassidy video on this beast. A few years later when I had moved to Central NY state, I accompanied my Dad to a tavern that advertized color TV. There was a motor-driven wheel next to the receiver that had colored gels. Adjustment of the rotational speed of the wheel was thought to produce a color image. It was an RCA item, I believe. 73 de George K2MYR - ------------------------------ To: Old Tube Radios Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Re: DuMont Date: Thu, 04 Jan 2007 12:53:38 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 From: w9mws@aol.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Cc: boatanchors@theporch.com Message-Id: <8C8FE4065DEBB33-E0C-420C@mblk-r11.sysops.aol.com> Leo Carillio played Pancho -----Original Message----- From: jsehring@siouxvalley.net To: boatanchors@theporch.com Sent: Thu, 4 Jan 2007 12:34 PM Subject: DuMont Oh, the Cisco Kid! That's fine for Extras but not Generals or Advanced. Another problem with the low end (below 3800) is that frequency range is the common band for the entire world. What might work better would be applying pressure on the ARRL and/or IARU for a real AM Window as part of a bandplan. Bandplans are enforceable in the USA because the burden of proof in a dispute falls on those operating in violation of the bandplan. If the SSB Boyz played QRM games while violating a bandplan, they would have to show a compelling reason why they needed to operate there. This system works quite well to keep intentional QRM'ers at bay on 160 meters, where SSB ops try to jam CW ops. I'd be all for pushing the ARRL and IARU (in this region) to recognize a reasonable space to accommodate wider modes like AM. I think much of the community would support that concept......especially if it does not conflict with worldwide areas of the band. With all that extra room what's wrong with a reasonable window someplace between 3800 and 4000? 73 Tom ------------------------------ End of BOATANCHORS Digest 3992 ******************************
