Was able to ID all of them from various listings on the LOFER pages and other googling, but one remains unknown "FO" on apx 400-402 kc.>> http://www.airnav.com/navaids/ shows no results for FO, but these things are sometimes poorly maintained. Might be a wrong ID, or could be a new one not listed. Also heard many signals with long tones and then a digital data burst between 1700 and 1800 kc. New type long line fishing float beacons, using a new digital mode other than the traditional Morse IDs?>> They have been there for many years and actually are disappearing now. From my location at EM73XB (just NNW of Macon) the majority are WSW of me. They are telemetry. There used to be dozens of them, now there are just a few. The fish beacons are still scattered all over 160 meters. Still using CW ID's. Mixed in with the fish beacons are harmonics of the NDB's. The NDB's, while low power, use very little harmonic filtering and often clip in the PA section for various reasons. Some of the tech's maintaining them don't have a good grasp of how to accurately measure harmonics. It isn't unusual to hear NDB harmonics for a few hundred miles on 160 meters and the longest distance I ever logged was a 25 watt NDB from Arizona on its 5th harmonic! 73 Tom ------------------------------ Message-Id: <6.2.1.2.0.20070107092316.03716f70@mail.comcast.net> Date: Sun, 07 Jan 2007 09:35:44 -0800 To: Old Tube Radios From: Chuck McGregor Subject: Re: Metal 6AU6 (?) Take a look at Ron Baker's website, specifically http://www.wb4hfn.com/DRAKE/DrakeArticles/ChassisCleaning/ChassisCleaning.htm 73, Al, W8UT New Bern, NC BoatAnchors appreciated here http://www.boatanchors.org http://www.hammarlund.info ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Kemp" To: "Old Tube Radios" Sent: Friday, January 12, 2007 9:23 AM Subject: Drake Help > Guys: > Any known cleaner or help for a corroded Drake r4b(copper/copperclad) > chasis. I would take this approach: For severe pits, using a dremel rotary tool I clean out severe rust spots. The exposed steel can then be spot copper plated or touched up with copper paint. Brown spots showing no green corrsosion or rust through I leave alone. Once the blemishes are dealt with, I treat the chassis with WD-40, allow to dry, wipe clean and then wax chassis. The point is to hault further degradation, not to make like new. Arden Allen KB6NAX ------------------------------ End of BOATANCHORS Digest 3994 ******************************
