We unwashed, scrounging in the streets, could hardly afford a scope of any type, much less a Tektronix, so we don't remember them with fondness - maybe, perhaps, the relief of finally being able to acquire one! Broken shaft-coupling was also a fix on the 321A; and in the past, I've salvaged a number of those spl tunnel diodes to 'pay forward'. GTBOS ... Le gouvernement des Etats-Unis vous paiera. I have had the opportunity to meet some wonderful people and had great experiences on visits to the USA as a direct result of discussions that started on this list. I am a member of several other hobby and professional "virtual communities" and can safely say that this one is consistently of very high quality. I think the discipline you insist upon and the no HTML policy has helped make this the great list it is. If more discussion groups were run that way the Internet would be a better place. I am aware there have been no calls for contributions for a while. Let us know the preferred way to pay you these days and I for one would be happy to cough up a few dollars to keep Boatanchors going. 73 to all Morris Odell VK3DOC Melbourne, Australia ------------------------------ Message-ID: <380-22007133193150482@earthlink.net> From: "Art Lebermann" To: Old Tube Radios Subject: CQ Magazine - Nov. 2001 Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2007 01:31:50 -0800 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Does anyone have a copy of CQ Magazine, Nov. 2001, in their archives? Several years ago, Walt VE6DA who lives near me here in Calgary AB had a garage sale, where I brought his old copy of the Allied Electronics Data Handbook, 4th Edition, 4th printing, 1965. As the subtitle, Formulas and Data Commonly Used in Electronics, indicates this 88 page book contains just about every formula you would need in homebrewing tube gear. Also tube sub charts and math tables (logs, trig functions) for the occasion when you misplace your slide rule in the shack. The information here can be found in many other places, but in this handbook one can find everything in one place! Golly, Eric! One of the best modulation monitors I've used was a Tek 531A looking at RF envelopes from UHF (225-400MHz) tranceivers back in my Navy days. I coupled RF into one of the V plates and the audio into Ext. Trigger. Worked perfectly. The vertical delay lines were perfect low pass filters keeping the RF and the rest of the scope separated so sweep ran normally. Those were the good 'ol days.... Google,W7FG, NostalgiaAir among others doesn't list it. It is made by the Hudson American Corp. which apparently is not the Hudson Motor Car Co. The only model identifier I can find is "Clipper" It is a broadcast band/marine band receiver, somewhat better constructed than a home BC set, all metal construction, and the power supply is a 12 Volt vibrator supply. Almost seems to me like it was intended for use on a boat, maybe as an entertainment and backup marine band unit. Circuit is straighforward superhet, the output tube is a 12A6 which leads me to beleive it is probably postwar(lots of surplus 12A6's to use up). Someone had started a conversion from 12 to 6 volts, but apparently never finished it. Anyone ever heard of it, or the company? Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Folks, I've been thinking about taking on a large scanning/organizational project for some time, and have finally gotten to it. I acquired a copy of the publication JANAP 161 (March 1953), Directory of Communications-Electronics Equipment, from Haney Howell a couple of years ago. This pub lists every electronic system and set in the military inventory at that time, so it covers a great many of the military boatanchors we all know and love. The document has about 1000 pages in it. Each page covers a system, group, or equipment item. It generally has a (very useful!) picture of the item, a description, a list of components (if it's a system), what it can communicate with, and its general characteristics. I'm about 1/3 of the way through scanning the pages for this beast, and thanks to a fast scanner at work, it's going pretty well. Each page is linked to a row in a huge table. One can search this table by using "Find in page" on a browser, so it's searchable in an elementary but useful way. Every time some interesting bit of military gear that I've never heard of is mentioned on this and other lists, I usually go Googling to try to find out what it is, and what it looks like. Unfortunately, most on-line lists just have a one-line description of the equipment. This publication provides a LOT more information than that! If you have time and are interested in military equipment lists, please have a look at this work in progress: http://jptronics.org/radios/Military/JANAP161/ and let me know if you think it's useful. I'd be grateful for suggestions on how to organize this material, corrections, or whatever.. 73, John K4OZY -- ------------------------------ Message-ID: <007301c74589$6092ad90$3201a8c0@w8ut> From: "Al Parker" To: Old Tube Radios Subject: Re: JANAP 161, March 1953, is online!
