I have decided to buy it even tho I'm attempting--being forced, really, by having less space--to downsize. I try to use "conservation of mass" to keep the volume of BA's at least constant & no greater. In this case it worked 'cause I just sold my Halliscratchers SX-100. I was sorry to part with this radio after 22 years. But, I need an rx with a 455 KHz IF output for my panadaptor, a Heath SB-620 (and Central Electronics Model B "Slicer"). Gotta love that orange CRT screen on the -620. And I will sell my NC-125 when I'm happy with the NC-240's performance. It'll be fun getting in the mechanicals of the 240's band change apparatus. I will keep you all posted. --John Sehring WB0EQ/VE6 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Mar 2007 18:33:16 -0700 (PDT) From: Jim Allen Subject: Wanted an HK 84 Tube To: Old Tube Radios MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="0-2000405012-1175218396=:91732" Message-ID: <454738.91732.qm@web82611.mail.mud.yahoo.com> --0-2000405012-1175218396=:91732 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ascii Hi, I need a Heintz & Kaufman 84 tube. If you have never had a 300, try one of these also. The 240Ds band change mech should not ever be a problem. Maybe ocasional contact finger cleaning. Mine was recapped and aligned working great. I had one bad tube- a 6K7 inthe IF section, would cause the S meter to read very stingey after 20 minute warm up. Yes, it took 20 minutes for the tube to show a H-K leakage- then the tube would fix itself when cooled down! Enjoy the radio! This meter looks to cover from 145 Mhz to about 170 Mhz. It looks like new though it may be refurbished. There are a couple of paint touch-ups on the front panel. It comes in the original wooden case that is in excellent condition with the instruction book dated 11/25/1942 and is made by Philco. It is a cavity oscillator that can also be used as a signal generator. A stamp on the instruction book says it part of test equipment ie-46A. It will weigh about 35 lbs shipped. Anyone interested at $50.00 plus shipping from 21771. Email me at K4CGY@yahoo.com as I will see your response sooner at that address than replying to this one.
