In a distortion critical very high Q circuit or other phase sensitive application it can cause measurable low level distortion, but not in a normal bypass or coupling application. She was a large, strong woman, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, and was playing with a bull whip indoors. Her roommate had to take it away from her before someone got hurt or all the breakables in the house got fragged. So, watch out; remove all bull whips from the vicinity before drinking Tequila. Instead it's got what looks like a loop made of shiny, thin, nichrome film (looks like a short section of tubing) that is located snguly inside of a similarly-shaped & -sized ring of carbon, all of which sit inside of the pot's housing. The shaft is connected to a spiral spring on the end of which is a small pressure pod of insulating material. This pod puts the squeeze on the shiny metal ring & carbon element behind it (so they are in tight contact) wherever the pod happens to be rotated to. Turning the shaft rotates the pod to different parts of the metal ring, so it makes contact elsewhere on the carbon element. (This is hard to describe!) The tip of the pod is greased so it moves smoothly on the inside of the nichrome ring as the shaft is turned. Any advice on cleaning, fluidic application, etc.? Anybody seen this kind of pot? The volume pot is VERY scratchy & intermittent, I don't know if it's of same construction but I'll need to do something with it as well (& there's certainly a leaky cap feeding it, hence its trouble). --John Sehring WB0EQ/VE6 ------------------------------ Mime-Version: 1.0 Message-Id: Date: Sat, 5 May 2007 00:57:18 -0700 To: Old Tube Radios From: Scott Robinson Subject: Re: Old style pots Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" ; format="flowed" Hi John, My GE FE-112, made about 1939, has the same kind of pot.
