It's the same as the US type 6SA7. The VIII-61 is the manufacturing date of 8-61 (August 1961). The RS-P is a nice old aircraft receiver, but later the US-9 receivers replaced it (the BC-348 clones). Presently working on cabling up my Russian R-807/US-9 station (ART-13/BC-348 clone). Incidentally, my US-9 was manufactured in 1966 and the R-807 in 1962, but I know of another US-9 with 1976 manufacturing date. Just for effect, I'm setting it up right next to the identical ART-13/BC-348 station. 73, Meir WF2U Landrum, SC I recently acquired a very neat WWII Russian aircraft radio- a "US-P." > The tubes are Russian copies of > 6K7, 6H6 and one which I cannot identify. > It looks like a metal 6SK7, and is in the circuit > were one would expect a mixer or pentagrid > converter. Thank you, Meir, Al, John and Dave for your help with this. Meir: I notice you named it as "RS-P." A direct translation of the Russian nomenclature, "=D0=A3=D0=A1-=D0=9F," comes out "US-P," and the BC-348 clone nomenclature, "=D0=A3=D0=A1-9," comes out "US-9." Therefore, should not the radio be called a "US-P?" I'm probably missing something.... I usually do ;-). These 1940s vintage transmitters were in service until 1999 for both=20 point-to-point and marine use. The MRHS Transmitter Department restored=20 one of these transmitters for use by KSM on 12993kc. When we received the transmitters their original type 872 mercury vapor=20 rectifiers in the bias and 3kV supplies had been replaced by solid state=20 units. What comes to mind is your modulation setup driven by an ePuddle acquisiton hi-fi amp. A Pionsneer or Kenwouldn't among many would do nicely. Built in bandpass shaping controls easily modified to get a much lower cutoff frequency. As a solid state amp doesn't care what you load it with unless it's highly capacitive or below 4 ohms or so it could be a useful intermediate step to run the low voltage setup on AM. Now, for the lecture on staying alive and preventing equipment destruction. Yes, I'm quite familiar with the absent mindedness of advancing years. I get quite a bit less done these days because being inherently lazy I quit screwing around when I start feeling groggy. It's also my key survival mechanism that has gotten me through life working for s__t head bosses who don't risk their own butts. It starts with the word "NO!" It didn't win me any browny points and made for some interesting new work venues. And I'm still around to tell about it (not so for one of my colleagues who was eventually taken by the complaceny demon). So, Dave, the lesson is, DON'T put your self under so much pressure to please your imagined audience. It's nice to be appreciated, but at what cost......?
