Hi, Ken You might try cleaning the Fwd/Refl switch, maybe there is a leakage path between the two lines from the diodes. Another thought is that the bypass capacitor near the Refl diode is bad, or there is a leakage path from the field strength meter pick-up to the Refl line. Usually a constant current reading hints that a current source exists - a high resistance somewhere in series with the voltage source. Again, it could be a bad switch contact. 73, Ed Knobloch ------------------------------ To: Old Tube Radios Cc: boatanchors@theporch.com Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2007 13:00:01 -0400 Subject: Re: Seeking Oct 1969 QST scan Message-ID: <20070618.130001.456.8.k4pf@juno.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Edward Knobloch Hi, Garey Thanks for the scans. By removing the front escutcheon (another word for the guys to play with) you should be able to easily remove the old plastic and make your own measurements for cutting a replacement. Earlier sets used a wire as mentioned by Robert. I've never come across the glass insert he mentions, but almost all the plastic units I've seen were distorted and discolored like yours. I swapped the plastic in my BC-342N for a wire assembly from an earlier junk unit. Difficult job, though, as a couple of the mounting screws are very hard to reach without dropping the front panel and this, in turn, requires unpinning the shaft to the fast tune dial. At the time, it struck me that a wire could be substituted with some careful in place drilling and soldering on the original (plastic) mounting assembly. Didn't try this, though. Dennis D. The glass I was remembering is the one mounted with bendable tabs toward the front of the removable cover over the lamps and dial. The BC-312-(probable N) that I made the plastic piece for was shipped long ago and the only two sets currently here at the house have the wire. But I think I used the glass as at a least partial template for the plastic piece, which may have needed to be a little wider at the top.
