It is the early one with only one xtal socket in the front I'm not sure if this is what you call a communicator or a communicator one. It is the 6 meter 12 volt version. I have a schematic for a 6 volt version but find it different in many areas. For instance the one I have uses a sub minature peanut tube a 6BG7 and a 9T8 tube in the reciever. At first I thought the 9T8 tube was a mistake but it may be used because of the filament voltage in series with the 6BG7 tube. What I could use is a good copy of a schematic for my version. I have tried BAMA but for some reason I can never down load anything from that site. I do notice they have a six meter version listed but not sure if this is the correct one. Any body got one? I will pay costs. I first became aware of this when I was unable to broadcast the 2130Z weather one Saturday. This resulted in an immediate inquiry from a listener who was waiting, with the earphones on, for the broadcast. Since then several others have informed us that they too await the KSM broadcasts. Some of these listeners have requested material that is less predictable than the weather broadcast. Last Saturday the station was in broadcast-only mode because of work at the receiving station. Transmitter Supervisor Steve Hawes edited a full day of CW press and weather, this in addition to the usual RTTY service. We received several appreciative messages about this service, especially the press broadcasts. Editing and broadcasting a full day of press and weather each Saturday would be asking too much of Steve, who has many things on his "to do" list at the transmitting station. But he has agreed to provide a morning (Pacific time) CW press broadcast each Saturday. The broadcast will begin at about 1000PDT/1700GMT and will continue until I activate the receive station at about 1200PDT/1900GMT. At that point I will assume control of the station and start sending the KSM "wheel". The usual schedule including the traffic list at 2100Z and Pacific high seas weather at 2130Z will continue. The RTTY schedule, which provides press and weather throughout the day, will continue as before. KSM frequencies are available on line at http://www.radiomarine.org but for convenience I have listed them below: CW - 426 500 4350.5 6474.0 8438.3 12993.0 16914.0 22445.8 RTTY - 8433.0 12631.0 K6KPH will maintain watch on its calling frequencies as usual beginning at about 1200PDT/1900GMT: 3550 7050 14050 21050 As always, we solicit your questions, comments and suggestions. It was originally made by Royel, I did a fair amount of modification work to the base, turning it into a water reservoir that will keep the sponge wet for a week or more. The holder for the soldering iron has a steel insert that exactly fits the model of Weller handpiece I use. The holder for the Pace desoldering handpiece has a nonmetallic insert large enough to hold the handpiece, but it has over many hours of use nearly disintegrated and I need to replace it. Although probably not originally made for the Pace, it was once a perfect fit. I have bought several different dirt cheap stands off of eBay just for the insert but they have all been either too large or too small. And I have had no luck finding another original stand. So I think I am going to have to make one. Can anyone recommend a specific material to use, that is likely to be readily available from say McMaster? I have a lathe so whittling a piece of solid rod into the proper shape isn't a problem. I considered making it of aluminum but the way in which the Pace handpiece is contructed and the way in which it needs to fit into the holder insert is such that a part of the handpiece not intended to get super hot would. And as anyone who has bought one knows, they do not exactly give those suckers away. 73 Robert Downs - Houston wa5cab dot com (Web Store) MVPA 9480 --part1_d32.5562677c.37473bc8_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ---REMAINDER OF MESSAGE TRUNCATED--- * * This post contains a forbidden message format * * (such as an attached file, a v-card, HTML formatting) * * Mail Lists at theporch.com only accept PLAIN TEXT * * If your postings display this message your mail program * * is not set to send PLAIN TEXT ONLY and needs adjusting * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * --part1_d32.5562677c.37473bc8_boundary-- ------------------------------ From: "Bill Hawkins" To: Old Tube Radios Subject: RE: The "Tesla Shield" Date: Thu, 21 May 2009 21:10:39 -0500 Message-ID: <4D6834C15D2D47E895FE89E338DC39AD@cyrus> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit -----Original Message----- From: owner-boatanchors@theporch.com [mailto:owner-boatanchors@theporch.com] On Behalf Of k4pf@juno.com Sent: Thursday, May 21, 2009 4:45 PM To: Old Tube Radios Subject: The "Tesla Shield" Well, somebody has to keep funding the spammers.
