Hi Rich and the Gang...yep, I'm here. If things quiet down here tonight
after the lightning goes by, I'll light off the 4-1000a on 7050 around
0200z....if anyone's interested. I'd sure like to hear Bry on his
bug....I'm glad he's giving it a try.

Had a nice gathering at 0200z with Doug, K7YD, Jack, W7QQQ, Mark, KE6JJR
and my self. Will continue to check the frequency during the remainder of
the weekend.

Except that there is the "Minimum plate current of 14 ma and maximum plate
current at full out put of 40 ma at 300 vdc." Seems to me that someone
went to a lot of trouble to perpetrate a falsehood.
Weird!

Yes, it was quite an event. We had a one tube osc. transmitter (W7QQQ), a
40 watt novice? rig (N6EV), a Swan 100 (KE6JJR), and a big kilowatt (K7YD).
I wonder how my one tuber would drive my homebrew pair of 813's amplifier? Ha!
What a combination! It would probably put out big harmonics though...grin.
Tonight I'll fire up the 813's and Yaseu FT-101. Makes for easier copy in the
static crashes. I'll dust off the ole straight key as well. Fun.

Subject: Electrolytic caps. needed...
It looks like I am going to have to replace all of the electrolytic
caps. in the power-supply circuits of my children's HW-16 and would
like to tap the collective wisdom of the list:
I am considering buying some of those photoflash type caps., but am
wondering how they would react to continuous use at full working
voltage. Does anyone here have experience along these lines?
Also, one of those I require is a 4 section job. I have not yet
found one suitable in either my AES catalog or in Newark's catalog or
in Fair Radio. Can anyone recommend a better source for these ?
I have also discovered why the HW-16 usually chirps so badly when
used on crystal control in so many cases: the voltage regulation to
the oscillator tube is TERRIBLE!!!, falling from 310 VDC with key up
to about 180 VDC with key down. When I jury-rigged VR tubes to
supply both plate and screen, chirp went away.

Will anyone be on there tonight? (Sunday).
I will try to be there with the GRC-109.
Couldn't make it last night as I had a service call until 0440Z and
then ate dinner and went to bed.

Subject: 6LQ6's
Hello to the Group,
Anyone have two good 6LQ6's they'd be willing
to part with? I'd prefer RCA manufacture, but would
try anything! (the 6LQ6 also goes as 6JE6C)
I have some other sweep tubes or 6146's to swap
or would buy outright.
Thanks,
John W0DC

Dug out the RCA manual to see what it says about the T, U, and X7.
Data sheets dated 1954, 1960, and 1961 show the following:
Item 12AT7 12AU7 12AX7
Max Watts 2.5 2.75 1.2
Max Avg Ma - 22 -
Max Volts 300 330 330
The 12AU7A is rated for 5.5 watts with both triodes at max.
Anybody tried burning up a 12AX7 yet? Wonder what the military
equivalents have for max ratings.
Regards,
Bill Hawkins

This is HIGHLY weird since the plates in the X7 are NEARLY 3 TIMES as
large as those of the T7 ! By actual measurement of one of the plates
of each tube, I get .8625 square inches of area for each plate in the
12AX7 and .375 square inches of area for each plate in the 12AT7.
Further, from the data above, the 12AU7 at 22 ma at 330 volts is 7.26
watts max. average power, not 2.75 watts.
This whole discussion has REALLY gotten me confused!!!!!

Not yet, but I am about to try it...this is getting out of hand.
