John: Wes Hayward describes filter design using the x.exe program in an
article in the June 1995 issue of QEX. The article indicates that this
program is available as part of the software package that comes with the
ARRL publication "Intro to RF Design". January 95 QEX has an article by
Jacob Makhinson, N6NWP, on his experiences with the programs in this
package. Both articles are reprinted in the ARRL's recent book, "QRP
Power". Good luck!

Gang,
My daughter went to Titanic this weekend and started asking
questions I couldn't answer. Where did CQ originate, also CQD
and SOS and why the change from CQD to SOS. I remember them
being discussed some time back but couldn't find them.

Tribal knowledge has it that CQ was just simply derived from "seek
you". CQD supposedly was "come quick, danger" and SOS was a
replacement for CQD because it was easier to remember in Morse code.
Supposedly it also meant "save our ship" or "save our souls". =20
As to exactly when and where, I doubt if anyone really knows for sure.

CQD = COME QUICK DANGER. Too easy to mis-read under noisy conditions.
Changed by some sort of international cooperative agreement to
SOS (sometimes phonetisized to "SAVE OUR SOULS")
Don't remember the dates.
